Friendship is a Powerful Medicine

www.vinnies.org.au/compeer-program-nsw

Compeer is a volunteer support and social program that uses the power of friendship to help people with mental illnesses live happier, more satisfying lives. The program recruits, screens, and matches volunteers with people recovering from mental illness. This is a volunteer program run by the St Vincent de Paul Society.

Many Compeer participants have experienced the devastating effects of mental illness resulting in loneliness and social isolation. The Compeer program is a compliment to traditional therapy. A Compeer friendship can make a substantial improvement in a participant’s self-worth – a key ingredient in bringing a person back into the mainstream of community life.

15 marathons in 15 consecutive days...in the Australian Simpson Desert

Barry Golding

www.multimarathon.com.au

Barry is one of the most extraordinary men I have spoken to in my life. Last year he ran 15 marathons in 15 consecutive days…in the Australian Simpson Desert!!! In this interview we talk about this amazing feat and what it was like to complete the event. We hear about the mental and physical barriers that he had to overcome in the gruelling run. Many charities have benefited from his determination and pioneering spirit. He is organising the event again this year and this time instead of one charity being helped, he and fellow runners will be raising money for 15 charity organisations. His web site is accepting donation now on http://www.multimarathon.com.au and volunteers are also required for the Simpson Desert event…can you lend a hand? Barry garantees that it will be a positive life changing experience.
